Kookanee Creek rises in the Selkirk mountains about 10 miles north, at Kokanee Lake, a glacier fed lake. It flows almost directly south to empty into the West Arm of Kootenay Lake. The crossing of the highway and the bridge are 400 metres west of the entrance to Kookanee Creek Provincial Park.
The bridge is a steel/concrete girder bridge about 150 feet in length.
There are campground entrances either side of the highway less than 100 metres west of the bridge; these are the best places to park.
