The Charlton Civil War Monument is located in front of the Charlton Public Library on Main Street (Route 31).

A 15' high granite stepped obelisk has high relief sculpture of a uniformed Union Civil War soldier is shown standing at parade rest holding a rifle by the barrel left hand over right. He has a canteen on his right side, a sword on his left hip, and a knapsack on his right hip. Above his head is an eagle with its wings spread perching on a pair of olive branches. Above the eagle is a shield. At the top is a sphere surrounded with leaves and flowers.

The obelisk rest on a 7.75' square granite base. The monument was commissioned by William H. Dexter, carved by sculptor T. J. McAuliffe. Martin Wilson was the contractor and the monument was dedicated on Memorial Day 1903.
