According to local history this log cabin, built circa 1850, originally came from the Goderich area. In 1930 the log cabin was taken apart and floated down Lake Huron on a log boom to Lakeshore Road. It was reassembled and enlarged and in 1938 a Carriage House built with billiard room and guestroom upstairs.

Both buildings were donated to the city for public use and in May 1971 were transported to Canatara Park where they sit outside the Animal Farm.
