The Earth Island Institute is working to support increasing nature and art in Berkeley, California. The Streets Alive project is an effort to bring vibrant public art to utility boxes in Berkeley.

Sending Signals is an artwork by Brad Aldridge. He was shown the inside of the box and the wires, fuses, circuits, and aging computer equipment that make this traffic signal work made him think of the roots, branches, and strata that make nature work.
