The name of this 1984 work by J. Seward Johnson is "That A Way". It is located in front of the Sofia Hotel on Broadway in downtown San Diego. It depicts former San Diego Mayor Pete Wilson, standing next to the entrance to the hotel, legs cassually crossed as he is apparently interupted while reading an issue of San Diego Magazine. He point's to his left as if to say "That A Way."
The signs at the site do not specifically identify the character as Wilson, but the poster of this Waymark has lived in San Diego for over 30 years and knows Wilson's image AND the second sign at site dedicates the sculpture to him, Ernie Hahn and Jerry trimble "For Their Extraordinary Vision and Persererance In creating the blueprint for a Renewed Downtown San Diego, executed by the Centre City Development Corporation and the San Diego City Council".

And Wikipedia (visit link) adds:

"John Seward Johnson II (born 1930) also known as J. Seward Johnson, Jr. and Seward Johnson is an American artist known for his trompe l'oeil painted bronze statues. He is a grandson of Robert Wood Johnson I (co-founder of Johnson & Johnson) and Colonel Thomas Melville Dill of Bermuda.

He is best known for his life-size bronze statues, which actually are castings of living people of all ages depicting them engaged in day-to-day activities. A large staff of technicians perform the fabrication."

As for Wilson, Wikipedia (visit link) informs us:

"Peter Barton "Pete" Wilson (born August 23, 1933) is an American politician from California. Wilson is a Republican who has served as the 36th governor of California (1991–1999), a United States Senator (1983–1991), the Mayor of San Diego (1971–1983) and a California State Assemblyman (1967–1971)."
