This compass rose is in the pavement just outside the entrance to the Abbey of Montecassino. The compass rose is a little over 42.5 feet in diameter.
The Abbey has been destroyed four times, most recently by heavy bombing in World War II, and rebuilt. A small group of Benedictine monks still lives there. Parts of the complex are open to the public, free of charge.
