"TORONTO - The investigation continues into the alleged hit-and-run incident that killed a cyclist on Finch Ave. W. early Thursday.
Toronto Police are still appealing for witnesses who may have seen the fatal incident to come forward.
Despite the arrest of a 22-year-old Richmond Hill woman in the case, investigators are still probing the matter and want to speak with witnesses, Const. Clint Stibbe said Friday.
“The fact that charges are laid doesn’t mean that the investigation has ended,” Stibbe said. “It just means that at that point there was enough information or grounds to lay those charges.”
Police allege the driver fled the scene after hitting 44-year-old Zhi Yong Kang, who was riding a bicycle on Finch Ave. W., at Tobermory Dr. around 12:20 a.m. Kang, a Toronto resident, died at the scene.
The woman was allegedly driving a dark blue BMW at the time and was located a short time later and arrested, police said.
Darya Selinevich faces a slew of charges including criminal negligence causing death and impaired driving causing death.
At her Richmond Hill home, located in a quiet suburban neighbourhood north of Teston Rd., a man avoided media questions Friday. He got into a white SUV and quickly drove away when asked if he was related to Selinevich.
Selinevich remains in custody and will next appear in court Monday." (
