Butcher Hill Cemetery - Yreka, CA - Worldwide Cemeteries on Waymarking.com

We came across this old cemetery while geocaching in the area. This is an older, unkempt cemetery with many damaged and unmarked metal grave markers scattered through the property, which is actually quite large compared to the number of graves in it, which Findagrave.com has listed at 135 interred here. This cemetery is also known as Foothill Cemetery. I've located another website (Rootsweb, part of Ancestry.com) that contains a link to this cemetery here. The last grave in this cemetery was buried here in 1940. This cemetery has not been maintained and vandals have destroyed many of the grave markers and headstones. The oldest grave here is from 1855. It's unfortunate that some immature people have no appreciation for the deceased and that the Siskiyou County Historical Society hasn't done more to maintain this very historic place.
