The Moinho do Frade is a windmill, classified as property of public interest, in Criação Velha parish, Lajido da Criação Velha. It stands in the midst of the famous vineyards of Pico. The "Landscape of the Pico Island Vineyard Culture" is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004.
The Moinho do Frade has been rebuilt in 2003/04 as an accurate copy of the original mill and it is even equipped with the necessary means for its original function of grain milling. During the summer the mill is usually open to the public, the entrance is free.
The Moinho do Frade is inserted into a walking trail along the coastline and though vineyard area called "Vinhas da Criação Velha" (PR5PIC), which has a extension of 8 km, time 2 hours and a easy level.
