[DE] "Der Schwebende" wurde 1926/27 von Ernst Barlach (1870-1938) anlässlich der 700-Jahr-Feier des Doms zu Güstrow und zur Erinnerung an die Toten des gerade überstandenen Weltkrieges geschaffen. In der Nazizeit galt dies als "entartete Kunst". 1937 wurde das Totenmal aus dem Dom in Güstrow entfernt und später für Kriegszwecke verschrottet.
Freunden von Barlach gelang es glücklicherweise, das Original-Werkmodell zu retten und - wahrscheinlich im Jahr 1939 - einen Zweitguss herstellen zu lassen. Dieser Zweitguss ist nun in der Antoniter-City-Kirche in Köln (http://www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WM1CER) zu bewundern.
[EN] "The Floating" was created in 1926/27 by Ernst Barlach (1870-1938) on the occasion of the 700th anniversary of the cathedral at Güstrow and to commemorate the dead of World War I. During the Nazi era, it was considered "degenerate art". In 1937, the monument was removed from the cathedral in Güstrow and later scrapped for the war.
Friends of Barlach fortunately succeeded to save the original factory model and - probably in 1939 - to produce a second cast. This second cast is now on display in the St. Anthony-city church in Cologne (http://www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WM1CER).
