The 82nd Airborne Division is an almost 100 year-old active duty airborne infantry division of the United States Army, specializing in parachute assault operations.

The original 82nd Division was formed in 1917 to join the American Expeditionary Force in Europe, fighting in World War I. Since the unit consisted only of newly conscripted soldiers, its members came from all over America. When it was discovered that the division indeed contained draftees from all forty-eight U.S. states at the time, it was nicknamed the "All-American division," resulting in the famed "AA" shoulder patch and flag.

In World War II, the paratroopers of the 82nd Airborne took part in such essential operations as the invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge.
