Heard of the Six Flags Over Texas theme park? Wonder why it's called that? Because six flags of countries flew over this state in our history:
The flag of Spain (1519-1685; 1690-1821), the flag of France (1685-1690), the Flag of Mexico (1821-1836), the Flag of the Republic of Texas (1836-1845), the Flag of the United States of America (1845-1861; 1865-present) and the flag of the Confederate States of America (1861-1865).
The national flag of the Republic of Texas is the US State flag of Texas -- and it is EVERYWHERE, because as they say, Texas is like a whole 'nother country!!!! Ha!
The three heavy main doors of the Lorenzo DeZavala State Archives Building in Austin sport the seals and symbols of each country who (at one time or another) claimed jurisdiction over Texas.
The doors are alike, except that the text over each one is a bit different. The three doors together make up the official name of this building, the Lorenzo DeZavala (State) Library (and) Archives. The door on the north has "Library" overhead, the middle "Lorenzo DeZavala" and the south door "Archives."
The respective state seals are arranged generally chronologically from top to bottom, starting at the upper left and ending at the lower right of the door, except that the seal of the Confederate States is fifth and the United States is sixth.
