This frieze is entitled "Festival Procession"[4]
or "A Festival Procession of the Arts"[1]
The bust in the middle is of the painter Thomas Gainsborough, after whom the building is named.[1]
The sculptor Isodore Konti (1862-1938) was born in Vienna of Hungarian parents. He studied at the Imperial
Academy of Art in Vienna and Italy before moving to the USA in 1891.[4]
The frieze was restored in 1988 [1,3]
There is also some beautiful tilework on the exterior of the upper floors (see gallery).
