Located on road to summit of Lava Butte at point where road turns to climb up onto the lava flow.

Marker Text: Some of the recent volcanic activity in western America caused the spectacular and strange lava formations, cinder cones and caves in this vicinity. Lava Butte, a cinder cone, contains a crater 150 feet deep. The fault beginning here extends southeast to the Paulina hills in the distance. Several huge caves, some of them containing perpetual ice formations, may be found to the south and east of here.
