These waves are not for surfing. The Tasman Sea, sometimes notoriously rough, crashes straight into the rocky cliffs at the entrance to Sydney Harbour. You simply must experience a storm at North Head Lookout, this can be overwhelming as the often blustery southern winds rush up over the sheer cliff face with salt laden winds and the ocean churns white foam directly beneath you.
There are numerous ship wrecks scattered along North Head, a reminder of the notorious maritime history of this area. Although today these wrecks are hardly recognizable, they still exist looking like a pile of rubbish half buried beneath the harbour sea floor.
An interesting ride on the Manly Ferry as it crosses Sydney Heads in big seas can be viewed here: (

Access: Darley Road leads from Manly to North Head Scenic Drive. The parking area has two dedicated wheelchair-accessible parking spaces. Parking is ticketed. The Fairfax Track is a 1km paved pathway leading from the car park to the lookout.
