Donald Dewar (1937-2000) was the leader of the Scottish Labour Party and strong supporter of reinstatement of Scottish Parliament. The 1997 referendum led to elections in 1999, and Dewar became the First Minister of Scotland as the leader of the winner coallition. He died in October 2000.
In 2002, his 9-foot bronze statue was erected at Buchanan Street in Glasgow.
