A NGS vertical mark, located on a bridge on U.S. Route 7 (Ethan Allen Highway), in Ridgefield, CT. NGS description is as follows:
DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1984 2.8 KM (1.75 MI) SE FROM RIDGEFIELD. 2.8 KM (1.75 MI) SOUTHEAST ALONG U.S. HIGHWAY 7 FROM THE JUNCTION OF STATE HIGHWAY 35 IN RIDGEFIELD TO THE MARK ON THE LEFT, IN TOP OF THE NORTHEAST ABUTMENT OF HIGHWAY BRIDGE 537 OVER THE NORWALK RIVER, 7.31 METERS (24.0 FT) NORTHEAST OF THE CENTERLINE OF THE HIGHWAY, 0.40 METER (1.3 FT) NORTHEAST OF THE NORTHEAST STEEL BRIDGE RAILING. THE MARK IS 0.61 METERS E FROM A WITNESS POST. THE MARK IS ABOVE LEVEL WITH HIGHWAY.
The mark is easy to find. The witness post is clearly visible at the bridge.
WARNING: This roadway is heavily traveled and is hazardous. If traveling by vehicle, park off the road on the northbound side of the highway just south of the bridge. Be safe.
