The cornerstone of the 1888 Sedgwick County Courthouse is inscribed with two years: the Anno Domini (Julian) calendar year and the Anno Lucis (A. L.) calendar year used by the Craft freemasons.

For an explanation about the years used in freemasonry, see here: (visit link)

This beautiful stone courthouse was built in 1888. It originally had a 6-story clock tower that had to be removed in the 1950s after it was damaged by high winds.

The historic 1914 black and white postcard photo credit belongs to the Wichita KS Historical Commission. The 1890s-vintage color postcard photo credit belongs to cardcow.com.
Year of construction: 1888
