«Located on the north end of Beijing’s Olympic Park, the new China Science and Technology Museum is dedicated to improving China’s foundation for science and technology education and to inspire a new generation of enthusiasts. RTKL’s design scheme for the 102,000-SM museum creates an architectural dialogue the combines the scientific thinking of the ancient Chinese with the advances of modern technology.
Drawing inspiration from childhood puzzle games, in which each piece of the puzzle exists as a fractional yet integral component of an overall picture, the building’s architecture hints at the concepts of interconnectivity, integrity and ultimate oneness. These metaphorical references manifests themselves in the form of a giant geometric cube, composed of a series of interlocked building blocks that fit together like pieces of a puzzle. The museum features state-of-the-art exhibits, conference facilities, classrooms and training areas, as well as retail, food venues, and 3D and 4D simulation theaters.»
