This life-size bronze statue of Hyrum Smith shows him dressed in the formal clothing of the middle 1800s and with his hands propped on a walking stick, a common male accessory of his day.

Hyrum, Utah is named after Hyrum Smith, brother of Joseph Smith who founded the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Joseph and Hyrum were martyred for their faith at Carthage, Illinois in 1844, 16 years before Hyrum was settled.
