"THIS BELL,CAST OF STEEL,IN SHEFFIELD, ENGLAND IN 1860, WAS THE START WORK AND STOP WORK SIGNAL ON MARE ISLAND NAVY YARD FOR MANY YEARS. RESTORED BY SHIPYARD APPRENTICES AT THE MARE ISLAND APPRENTICE SCHOOL. PLAQUE PRESENTED BY MARE ISLAND APPRENTICE ASSOCIATION S SEPT. 16, 1954."
