Barbour County
Formed from Harrison,Lewis and Randolph in 1843. It is named for Philip Pendleton Barbour, distinguished Virginia jurist. The scene of opening hostilities on land between the armies of the North and the South in 1861.
Harrison County
Formed, 1784, from Monongalia. It included all or part of 17 other counties. Named for Benjamin Harrison, signer of Declaration of Independence and the governor of Virginia, 1781~1784. Birthplace of General "Stonewall" Jackson.
