Marker was erected in 1967, commemorating the 100th anniversary of Canadian Confederation.
Centennial Park was created on land formerly used for commercial canning, a lumber mill, and other ventures. The land was cleared, buildings razed and the waterfront improved so that the area could be and is used for recreation activities. There is a large playground, barbecues, washroom facilities and a boat launch.
