At the beginning of Pier 39's concourse are a few major restaurant branches, like the Hard Rock Cafe San Francisco. Just past these "anchor" stores That attract lots of the pier's tourists are the smaller novelty food stores and the seafood specialty stores. In the middle of the concourse, after the first elbow in the walkway, is a large kiosk/stand permanently attached to the pier and doing business as the Ball Park hot dog stand. It selling a selection of hot dogs with a variety of toppings. On the top of this hot dog stand are fiberglass replicas of a huge baseball and a proportionally enlarged baseball bat. Makes one think the stand caters to the baseball fans ... or fisherman ... because both love to see a good catch!
The oversized bat and ball are attached to the top of the stand. Since the hot dog stand is attached to the pier, the middle of the counter is about head-high to an average adult. Therefore, the roof of the stand is about 12 feet above the pier. This makes the ball and bat 12-15 feet tall, from base to top of the bat. Even at night, the bat and ball on this hot dog are hard to miss.
