A plaque at the sight of the crane states that it was used in the construction of the eastern breakwater that commenced in 1900. The crane is situated in the Port Kembla Heritage Park Precinct. Another plaque states that the British company Cowans Sheldon Co. Ltd established in 1846, was for over 150 years was one of the world's leading crane and shovel manufacturers.

The crane is on permanent display near the headquarters of the Port Corporation. It is in good condition with the original blue paint work with a bit of rust as would be expected.
