This mural (#7 in
The Murals of Conejos County Driving Tour) is located on the old Antonito Mill. It shows a fierce serpent, based on the Aztec god Quetzalcoatl, with five large waves along its body and fire coming from its mouth.
The mural was created by Fred "Lightning Heart" Haberlein and measures 8 ft x 48 ft. It is one of many in the area that comprise the Murals of Conejos County Driving Tour, highlighting art that engages in the "ages-old local tradition of story-telling depicting tales of settlement, folklore, faith, scenic beauty and everyday rural life." A brochure is available at the Antonito and Alamosa chambers of commerce.
