This two-and-one-half story Italian Villa style house was built in 1878 for Salem brewer Samuel Adolph, a German-Jewish immigrant. Adolph arrived in the United States in 1855 and enlisted in the Army, serving for eight years, mostly in the West. In 1867, Adolph came to Salem and entered the brewery business. Adolph built several business blocks in downtown Salem's historic district, also serving on the city council. Adolph's son-in-law Isadore Greenbaum inherited the house. Mr. Greenbaum operated a dry goods store and is the name behind the Greenbaum Building and store. Recently the house served as office space for a psychology practice.
