[DE] Johannes von Arnoldi (* 30.12.1751 Herborn, † 2.11.1827 Dillenburg) studierte Rechtswissenschaft in Herborn und Göttingen, wo er sich von Ch. W. J. Gatterer zugleich in der Diplomatik ausbilden ließ. 1777 trat er in die Dillenburger Landesverwaltung (Archiv, Rentkammer, Regierung), wurde 1792 Mitglied der Landesregierung und 1796 Direktor des Landesarchivs. 1801-13 mit der Durchsetzung der oranischen Entschädigungsansprüche betraut, kam er in Wien wie in Regensburg in fördernde Verbindung mit der europäischen Diplomatie und - durch den befreundeten Friedrich Nikolai - mit der Berliner Gelehrtenwelt. Erst nach dem Sturz der großherzoglich-bergischen Regierung 1813 kehrte er nach Dillenburg zurück, wo er die Verwaltung der oranischen Stammlande wiedereinrichtete, bis diese 1815 an Preußen und kurz darauf an das neugeschaffene Herzogtum Nassau übergingen. Arnoldi ist der letzte Staatsmann der oranischen Stammlande und der Geschichtsschreiber Nassau-Oraniens. In 1777 he joined the administration in Dillenburg, in 1792 he became a member of the State Government and Director of the National Archives in 1796. 1801-13 he was entrusted with the enforcement of compensation claims of the house of Orange. He came to Vienna and Regensburg and became connected with the European diplomacy and with the academic world. After the fall of the Grand Duchy of Berg in 1813, he returned to Dillenburg, where he reinstated the administration until it became part of Prussia in 1815, and shortly afterwards of the newly created Duchy of Nassau. Arnoldi is the last statesman and the master historian of the hosue of Orange-Nassau.
