Westbrook is the first underground station in Calgary's light rail transit (LRT) system. It is part of an 800m long underground section of the new west line. Although it is underground, the platform gets lots of natural light though several large round "light cannon" skylights.
The west line opened on Dec. 10, 2012. It extends from downtown to 69th Street SW, and includes six stations and 8.2 kilometers of new track. The west line has the first stations in Calgary's LRT system to be significantly above street level (Sunalta station) and below street level (Westbrook station, 69th Street station, 45th Street station).
All the stations on the west line have a distinctive elliptical tube motif in their roof lines and walls. Many stations feature copper roofs.
