Perry Stokes airport is located 10 miles northeast of Trinidad on 650 acres. It is owned by Las Animas county and sees an average of 30 aircraft operations each day.

Established in 1936 as the Trinidad Airport by the Works Projects Administration, the airfield saw its greatest use in the 1940's to 1950's. Continental, Frontier and TWA offered daily commuter service on DC-3 aircraft. A terminal was constructed in 1951. The regular service ceased with the decline of the coal mines in the region and the airport now only sees a handful of cargo, medical, private and military flights each week.

The airfield is named after Perry F. Stokes who managed the airport for the City of Trinidad in 1944. He was responsible for establishing the commercial use of the airport and was inducted into the Colorado Aviation Hall of Fame in 1984.
