A spare and elegant bell tower surrounded by benches and a memorial monument on top of the hill near the obelisk at the Leavenworth National Cemetery serves both as an elegant landmark in the cemetery, and as a memorial to all veterans.
A squat grey granite monument with the seals of the five military service branches in bronze medallions sits near the foot of the bell tower. On the back of this monument are three bronze panels.
From left to right, the first panel contains the lyrics to "Taps," by Major Butterfield. Underneath is a list of names of major donors to the Carillion.
The center panel lists the officers of the Leavenworth National Cemetery Carillion Memorial Corporation.
The far right panel shares part of quote from President Harry Truman, below which are a list of more names of donors and supporters.
The carillon bells have a beautiful tone. We enjoyed hearing them on our visit.

TAPS
Day is done,
gone the sun, from the hills,
from the sky, all is well,
Safely rest, safely rest,
All is well.
Fading light dims the sight
and a star gems the sky
gleaming bright from afar,
drawing night, falls the light,
Dear one rest!
