On the front page of our Taupo Times: The 'boy from Taupo', Bevan Docherty, wins the "Ironman New Zealand" in his hometown Taupo and smashed the course record in his first attempt at this event.

Taupo is hugely proud of their champion Bevan Docherty who won his first Ironman event this year in March, 2013. The two-time Olympic Triathlon medalist smashed a classy field and the course record to win the Kellogs Nutri-Grain Ironman New Zealand event in Taupo.

He won in a new course record of 8 hours 15mins 35secs.
He said "It was pretty amazing out there. To win first up here in my hometown was pretty special. It was a great day, the sun was shining, the people were out supporting. It really showed off Taupo perfectly."

Co-ordinates S 38° 41.120 E 176° 04.130 are the Finish Line in Tongariro North Domain, Taupo.
