The sign alludes to the agricultural nature of the village and its wild life. The sign is of a similar design for that of Little Sampford, but with a depiction of Great Sampford Church in the background.

There is a plaque on the base that reads

GREAT SAMPFORD

THIS VILLAGE SIGN WAS COMMISSIONED BY

THE PARISH COUNCIL IN THE YEAR 2000

THE VILLAGE IS GRATEFUL TO THOSE
