The brainchild of Lamar Hunt, Dallas native, founder of the American Football League, and former owner of the Dallas Texans, (which he moved to Kansas City as the AFL Chiefs franchise in 1967), SubTropolis is a brilliant reuse of a former limestone mine (which mine was owned by Hunt Minerals when active). This mine was mined using the "pillar and room" method, leaving behind the pillars that supprt the ceiling and allow for the old mine's use as a midern, energy-efficient business hub.
With over 5 MILLION square feet of leasable underground office and industrial space, Subtropolis is the world's largest underground business complex.
Waymark coordinates are taken at the 8300 entrance to SubTropolis -- the one with all the flags. You are welcome to come inside and explore. The leasing office is at the first turnout to your left. They have nice bathrooms there for guests, and they really do welcome sightseers!
