Si Coaraze est connu comme "le village du soleil", ce n’est pas uniquement pour son ensoleillement exceptionnel, mais aussi à la volonté de Paul Mari d’Antoine, un natif du pays féru de poésie.
Elu maire en 1953, il organise les Rencontres Poétiques de Provence présidées par Jean Cocteau et lance un projet de "douze cadrans solaires qui seraient des oeuvres d’art", dont il avait eu l’idée avec ses amis Jean Cocteau et Gilbert Valentin (céramiste célèbre de Vallauris).
Les premiers cadrans ont été installés en avril 1961 sur la façade de la mairie : parmi eux, celui de Cocteau intitulé "Les lézards" - le lézard étant l’ emblème des armoiries de Coaraze.
Six cadrans ont été réalisés, les autres étant signés Gilbert Valentin, Mona Cristie, Georges Douking, Henri Bernard Goetz, Ponce de Léon.
Le projet a été par la suite abandonné. Paul Mari a su convaincre le maire actuel Michel Péglion de reprendre et de poursuivre le projet.
Cinq nouveaux cadrans ont vu le jour en 2008, signés Patrick Moya, Ben, Sacha Sosno, Fabienne Barre, Henri Maccheroni.

If Coaraze is known as "the village of the sun", it is not only for its sunshine, but also the will of Paul Antoine Mari, a native of the country fond of poetry.
Elected mayor in 1953, he organized the meetings Poetic Provence chaired by Jean Cocteau and Initiates "twelve sundials that are works of art", he had the idea with his friends Jean Cocteau and Gilbert Valentin (ceramist famous Vallauris).
The first sundials were installed in April 1961 on the facade of the town hall, among them that of Cocteau entitled "Lizards" - the lizard being the emblem coat of arms Coaraze.
Six dials have been made, the others being signed Gilbert Valentin, Mona Cristie, Douking Georges Henri Bernard Goetz, Ponce de Leon.
The project was eventually abandoned. Paul Mari convinced the current mayor Michel PEGLION to resume and continue the project.
Five new dials were born in 2008, signed Patrick Moya, Ben, Sacha Sosno, Fabienne Barre, Henri Maccheroni.
