[DE] Die Dillenburg war eine der größten mittelalterlichen Burgen Europas. Sie wurde im Siebenjährigen Krieg (1756-63) beim Einmarsch der Franzosen zerstört. Noch heute existieren riesige unterirdische Befestigungsanlagen (Kasematten).
Seit 1875 wird der Ort, an dem die Burg gestanden hat, von einem vierzig Meter hohen Turm markiert, der Wilhelm von Oranien zu Ehren erbaut wurde. In dem Turm befindet sich das Oranien-Nassauische Museum. Es bietet eine reiche und bedeutende Sammlung von Gemälden, Urkunden, Waffen und Gebrauchsgegenständen.

[EN] The castle of Dillenburg was one of the largest medieval castles in Europe. It was destroyed in the Seven Years War (1756-63) during the French invasion. Even today there are huge underground fortifications (Kasematten).
Since 1875, the place where the castle stood, is marked by a forty-meter tower, which was built in honor of William of Orange. In the tower is a museum which offers a rich and important collection of paintings, documents, weapons and artifacts.

If you come to visit, you should take some time and visit not only the tower with its museum, but also take a guided walk through the large underground fortifications. If you have some more time left, you could also visit the Villa Grün, which has a nice collection on the economic history of the region.
