This is a monument dedicated to the market women of Hannover, Germany, Niedersachsen. It is located in front of the market hall in the 'Karmarschstraße'.
The monument shows a woman with a heavy backpack. She's on the way to the market hall.
The sculpture shows 'Karoline Duhnsen' also called 'Oma Duhnsen' (Granny Duhnsen), a famous market woman of Hannover who selled her goods for over 50 years at the market hall. The sculpture has been created while the life-time of Karoline Duhnsen.
The sculpture is less than life-sized. Its heigt is 1.30 meters. It's made of bronze.
It has been created by Hans-Jürgen Zimmermann in 1999.
It has to come a tradition for newly married couples of the opposite City Hall to come across and try to rub the wallet by Karoline Duhnsen. This should make money for them.
