Eholt was a railway town and nothing more. Almost all other towns in the area at the turn of the twentieth century were mining towns. The town of Eholt, however, was built around the switching yards that were built by the CPR to serve mines in the area, most notably the copper and gold mines at Phoenix, which lies between Eholt and Greenwood. After shipping over 15 million tons of ore, the mines were played out, and both Phoenix and Eholt were abandoned by the 1920s.
The abandoned railway is now the Kettle Valley Rail Trail, a 600 km. hiking & biking trail between Midway and Hope that is also part of the Trans Canada Trail.
