Information on the sign mentions that wombats are the size of a pig and very solidly built. They have no natural enemies & use their sharp claws to dig up roots.
I have come across them in the bush despite their being nocturnal. Bulldozer is a good description as you can hear them coming & often they don't see you until the last moment, when they charge back through the undergrowth.
