The tree is found in Rotorua's beautiful Government Gardens, which contains dozens of places of historical significance and is framed by several beautiful buildings.
The rimu tree is a significant native conifer in New Zealand and is protected from logging. It's noted as being a 'slow starter' so I hope the fact that this specimen is not even 2 metres tall after 15 years is normal. However, it can reach heights of up to 50 metres when fully grown. Rimus can live 1000 years although 500-600 is more the norm.
