Simple bronze plaque affixed to polished red granite which pays tribute to 4 US Army chaplains who gave up their life vests so that four soldier might live. This occured after the torpedoeing and subsequent sinking of the troop carrier SS Dorchester 3 February, 1943.
What is especially symbolic is that the chaplains were Catholic, Protestant and Jewish.
The four were
Lt G.L. Fox (Protestant)
Lt J.P. Washington (Catholic)
Lt A.D. Goode (Jewish)
Lt C.V. Poling (Protestant)
The four were all awarded the Distinguished Service Cross (DSC) and the Purple Heart.
