Local PBS station localed in Watertown, New York. The station was originally issued call letters WNPE upon start-up in 1971. Sister station WNPI transmitted from Norwood, NY.
In 1998 the call letters WPBS were purchased from a radio station in Conyers, GA.
Throughout its history, WPBS has been one of the most successful PBS stations, due in large part to its proximity to the large Eastern Ontario markets.
