The United States Custom House is located at 220 NW Eighth Avenue in downtown Portland, Oregon. Northwestern Division. North Pacific Region. United States Army Corps of Engineers. Entrance on Broadway. All the windows and passage ways are barred and locked. I was not able to get a close-up of the bronze historic plaque. I took the photograph by putting the camera lens through the bars of the tall iron gate. The architect was Edgar M. Lazarus. Inside, each floor represents a different Greek architectural order--Doric (the oldest and simplest; the capital of a Doric column has a rounded moulding) on the first floor, Ionic (scroll in the capital of the column) on the second floor, and Corinthian (the most elaborate style; bell-shaped capital adorned with acanthus leaves) on the third floor. Outside, there are molded panels with symbols for various professions (scale for lawyers, hand for clergy, key for teachers, caduceus for physicians, etc.)
This building has three benchmarks: Portland US Customhse S AND N End FS, and RD0432 Designation R 14 bench mark disk which is located in north end of first step on west side of United States Custom House.
