Near the south entrance to the Getchell Library is this rectangular reflecting pool and fountain. From other pictures I've seen, this has a very pleasing blue hue to it. When I was there in November, the water was drained, so I did not get the full effect of the reflecting pool. Part of the pool runs slightly under the open staircase to the library entrance.
The sculpture consists of a number of trapezoidal concrete blocks that are covered with small pebble sized rocks. They are geometrically stacked into a tower that doubles as a fountain. It consists of eight levels of full-sized blocks atop one layer of smaller blocks at the bottom. There is a well-worn blue marker attached to the fountain that reads:
THE GETCHELL
REFLECTING POOL
CONSTRUCTED IN 1962. THANKS
TO THE 1990 ASUN, ALONG WITH
LABOR PROVIDED BY BUILDINGS
AND GROUNDS, THE POOL WAS
RESTORED IN APRIL, 1990.
THE POOL USES RECYCLED, FILT-
ERED WATER AND WHEN THE POOL
IS DRAINED, THE WATER IS USED
FOR LANDSCAPE IRRIGATION.
