The Haarlemmertrekvaart, also known under the names Leidsevaart, Leiden Trekvaart, was an important route for tow barges between Haarlem and Leiden through the Flowerbulb Region. The canal begins in the spurs of the Kagerplassen and flows into the Spaarne.
The canal was dug in 1657. It took eight months to dig the canal. Especially at Leiden it could partially be channeled through existing watercourses, as the river Mare.
The canal has a length of 30 km, the width ranges from 15 to 30 meters.
Now the house is used as a restaurant.
