NZ0029 - USGS 'L' 1908 - Rocky Point, OR - U.S. Benchmarks on Waymarking.com

I was not able to recover this U.S. Geological Survey benchmark from 1908. The only remnants recovered were the empty space where the shaft of the disk existed, some cement epoxy and a metal nail that was driven into the shaft by a previous surveyor. This benchmark exists on a topography map as 'BM 4153'.

I approached the property owner, Robert Dobbins, to help me locate this benchmark. He remembered seeing the benchmark imbedded in this boulder many years ago but that some vandals had ripped it out and stolen it. He's been the owner of this property for 45 years. He also mentioned an individual doing some surveying about five years ago who had asked about the benchmark and apparently drove a nail into the spot where the bench mark used to be for surveying purposes.

It is to be assumed then, that although the benchmark disk is gone, it can still be utilized for surveying. My posted coordinates will place you very close to this benchmark location.
