Yosemite Falls, as well as all the waterfalls in Yosemite, are best seen during the spring months when they are fed by substantial snow melt. By the end of summer, they are little more than stains on the granite walls.
Yosemite Falls is actually a series of waterfalls: Upper Yosemite Falls, Lower Yosemite Falls and several smaller cascades in between with a combined height of 2425 feet. The stamp pictures the upper falls.
The stamp was part of a set of stamps showing various superlatives, both natural and man-made.
