"Bucket of Blood" was the nickname for this saloon back in the early part of the 1900's.

This saloon/hotel is currently owned by the McMenamins franchise. The history of the White Eagle starts around 1905, when the saloon entertained dozens of thirsty folks after they finished their day working on the docks, in the Union Pacific railroad shops, or at the neighboring factories and mills built along the Willamette River in Portland. The saloon earned the nickname "Bucket of Blood" for all the fights that broke out in the saloon, and it earned a rough reputation as a speakeasy and brothel, quickly becoming the place of legends, and stories that may or may not be true....stories of murder, men who disappeared and were thought to have been shanghaied thru the network of underground tunnels, swiftly escorted thru dark, damp passageways to the belly of a ship. The McMenimins website reports: "Psychics who have examined the place report a sensation of violence and death in the basement and a deep well of sadness dwelling on the second floor."
