Since 1969, the convent and church have been used as university headquarters, first as a college attached to the Complutense University and, since 1991, as the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences of Toledo, owned by the University of Castilla-La Mancha.
An historical marker on the church provides the following information:
[SPANISH] Iglesia de San Pedro Martir
Penteneciente al Convento de San Pedro Martir fundado en Toledo por la Orden Dominicana (Ordo Prae Dicatorum) 1407, dedicado al Fraile Dominico Pedro de Verona proto Martir de la Orden Canonizado en 1253, y en el sitio que fue propiedad de DNA gio mar de meneses.
El conjunto de la iglesia esta formado por el templo y capillas ady acentes, ademas de otras estancias como la capilla de santaines, la sacristia y el relicario (Ochavo).
La construccion de la sacristia Seinicia en 1597 bajo trazas de Nicolas de Vergara "El Mozo", quien en 1605 comienza el nuevo templo sobre los restos la anterior iglesia de la que solo se conservala torre Mudejar, y que sera finalizado tras su fallecimiento por Juan Bautista Monegro quien tambien es el autor de la portada posteriormente se construir a el relicario.
En el interior del templo, tras la desamortizacion de Mendizabal, se reunieron una serie de retablos, y monumentos funebres que pasaron a formar parte del museo provincial y panteon de tolebanos ilustres aqui instalado.
En 2010 la universidad de Castilla la Mancha aborda la restauracion del conjunto de la iglesia dirigida por el arquitecto Emilio Veraste Guiravo y los arquitectos tecnicos Jose Antonio Moreno Franco y Miguel Frances Gomez.
[ENGLISH] Church of San Pedro Martyr
Belonging to the Convent of San Pedro the Martyr founded in Toledo by the Dominican Order (Ordo Prae Dicatorum) in 1407, dedicated to the Dominican Friar Pedro Verona, the martyr of the Order, was canonized in 1253, and on the site that was owned by Dona Siomar de Meneses.
The whole of the church is formed by the temple and adjacent chapels, in addition to the other rooms such as the chapel of Santaines, the sacristy and the reliquary (Ochavo).
The construction of the sacristy Seinicia in 1597 under design of Nicolas de Vergara "El Mozo", who in 1605 began the new temple over the previous church of which only the Mudejar tower remained, and was completed after his death by Juan Bautista Monegro who also was the creator of the facade and later he built the reliquary.
In the interior of the temple, after the disentailment of Mendizabal, a collection of altar pieces and funeral monuments were returned and became part of the provincial museum and a building where famous Toledeans were buried.
In 2010, the University of Castilla la Mancha took charge of the restoration of the church led by the architect Emilio Veraste Guiravo and the architect technicians Jose Antonio Moreno Franco and Miguel Frances Gomez.
