Although you may not be able to tell from the photos, the date and scrollwork are not just painted on. It looks as if they were molded in plaster and then painter over.

The building is located just adjacent to the square in Fair Grove's old downtown. It is located immediately across from the Odd Fellows Cafe, a place you have to stop in and try. (It's an internet cafe run by an Aussie, with marvelous sandwiches, desserts, & coffees. It serves wine, too, and periodically offers live music.)

Back to this waymark. - An internet search revealed nothing about the buildings origins. It was closed when Team Blakelylaw visited the town, the day after Independence Day, but it appears to be inhabited by an antique store/flea market. Outside, it appears to be in pretty decent shape considering that its all wood & plaster construction.

Fair Grove, located about 14-miles north of Springfield, has been around since the 1880s. It appears to be a fairly sleepy little community with a devotion to its history as a mercantile center.
Year of construction: 1905
